Day 7 Ginger Cabin, North Beach, Graham Island, QCI

Rained last night and again this morning. Good to be in a cabin!

Took a trip to Port Clements, a logging town. Museum was filled with logging equipment, that's all.

Hiked on the Golden Spruce trail, the famous Golden Spruce that was chopped down in 1997. Not sure if we saw it. We found a big stump that we thought was it. I guess I was expecting a big sign that said: 'This was the Golden Spruce'.

Then on to a hike to find a partially built Haida canoe. Old, long hike, not that much to see.

Went to Tlell looking for lunch. Couldn't find the town, but eventually ate at 'Dress for Les' (10 minutes south of Misty Meadows campground, which looks like your average campground). Great food. Turns out that Dress for Les is at least the touchpoint for Tlell, as there is no real town.

Then on to a hike to the Pesuta wreck. 5km along the trail to East Beach. Very ominous looking, especially on the bleak beach. Then 5km back. All very tired.

There's lots of talk about the Golden Spruce on the QCI. There's a book out that was for sale everywhere. Interesting that the Golden Spruce was close to Port Clements, which isa forestry town, and seems out of sync with the rest of the island.
